RA Power Solutions was contacted by a Dubai-based shipping company about a crankshaft issue on a MAN B&W 5L16/24 engine. Our two technicians traveled to Kandla Port, India, with a portable crankshaft grinding machine and measuring tools. They carried out a full inspection, including dimensional checks, hardness tests, crack detection, and visual assessment. All other parameters were within specified limits, except for excessive ovality observed in all crankpins, ranging from 0.10 mm to 0.40 mm. The crankpins were ground to fix the ovality, undersized bearings were provided, and the engine was successfully started and ran perfectly under our supervision.
